The Science Behind Lumenis® ResurFX™

The ResurFX laser is a non-ablative laser, meaning it stimulates the skin to develop collagen without harming any tissue. The rise in temperature stimulates neocollagenesis, a process in which new collagen is produced by the body. Collagen is a fibrous protein that is responsible for giving the skin its elasticity and suppleness. By producing new collagen the skin regains its youthful appearance improving lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, scars and stretch marks. ResurFX is also a fractional laser, meaning the laser light that is delivered to the skin is divided into “microcolumns”. Unlike other fractional devices, ResurFX requires only one pass over the skin to produce effective results, reducing discomfort. The device allows for highly customizable treatments so we can adjust factors such as laser beam shape, size, density, and energy strength to fit each patient’s precise needs. This treatment can be combined with IPL for enhanced results.

What Does The Skin Look Like After ResurfX? 

After ResurfX, redness is normal for anywhere between 3-5 days. Can get some swelling, skin can feel warm and tight for the rest of the day. Dryness and light shedding is normal the days after the treatment. We will give you a healing cream to use to rehydrate and soothe the skin following the treatment.

How Do I Prepare For Treatment?

No exposure to sun or tanning beds for five weeks prior to treatment. This is essential as permanent discoloration of skin may occur. Also discontinue any retinol products five days prior to treatment.

What Happens During The Treatment? 

Start with a deep cleanse with hot towels. The skin can be numbed if needed to make the treatment more comfortable. We then treat the area and finish off with cold compress to cool the skin as well as Dermalux LED white light, to reduce downtime and to cool the skin. We go through the homecare and give you some healing cream. Treatments are 4 weeks apart. 

What Can I Expect After The Treatment?

After treatment, you will experience some redness and swelling, and after a few days, perhaps a bronzed appearance. Most swelling will be noticeable the day of, and on the first morning after treatment. To minimize swelling you can apply cold compresses to the area for ten minutes of every hour on the day of the treatment. You may also notice a “sandpaper” texture for a few days after treatment. This is a sign new collagen is being created in the treated tissue and your skin is regenerating. It is very important to avoid direct sun exposure and to apply sunscreen diligently throughout the treatment course. Most patients are able to resume their daily activities the same day.

When Will I See Results?

The Lumenis® ResurFX™ treatment works with your skin to stimulate deep collagen regeneration over a sequence of treatments. Typically, one to three sessions are needed for significant improvement in the skin texture and fine lines. Optimal results are achieved after three to five sessions in four to five week intervals. However, you will continue to see improvements for up to six months following the treatments.

Can This Treatment Be Used as Part of a Combo Therapy?

Yes! The Lumenis® Photofractional™ system is a complete skin rejuvenation solution, enabling us to offer you remarkable results on a range of skin aging concerns such as age and sun spots, vascular lesions, uneven texture and skin tone. This unique rejuvenation technology includes two treatments: IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and ResurFX™, so that both skin tone and texture may be treated during the same session. For optimum results we recommend a course of 3 sessions of Photo Facial. The Combination of these two treatments cost is €390.
