IPL is the reason I got into the Aesthetic side of the industry, due to having broken veins around my nose and pigmentation on my face. I learned about IPL and was so excited that I could treat my concern and I felt so confident in my skin after. I then studied further the difference of technology and trained under a Doctor using Lumenis for years.

To explain IPL further it uses broad-spectrum light technology to stop blood flow to broken capillaries by coagulation. It also targets pigmentation including age spots by drawing the pigment up out of the skin. Depending on the filter used we can target many things including Collagen, redness, veins, pigmentation and acne. As IPL treatment evens out your skin tone, this can also make you appear younger which is always a good thing! I describe it as if you look at someone in a black and white picture you can see the lines or wrinkles but not the discoloration and this makes people look younger, this is what IPL is doing, taking the color from sun exposure and harsh weather ect away and making your skin clear.

To explain in science terms the broad spectrum pulsed light is transmitted through a continuously cooled applicator, gently placed over the skin. Cut-off filters in the hand piece change the range of wavelengths, optimizing it for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the relevant chromophores and damages them (blood chromophores when treating vascular lesions and melanin chromophores when treating pigmented lesions).

Patch Test Consultation

A patch test is required at least 24 hrs. before treatment. We go through the treatment process, how many treatments you may need, due to your concern, aftercare and cost. 

During your treatments, you will feel heat with a slight stinging or snapping feeling, this is very tolerable, and it should not last for more than a few minutes after your treatment. You may experience some redness after, and must protect the area from sun exposure. After treatment we advise to avoid heat activity for at least 24 hrs. and that you cool the area down later is needed. Some people depending on what is treated may have bruising or swelling but we go through all of this in the consultation as it depends on what we are treating and skin type.
