What Is A Peel?
A peel is a solution that we apply to the skin to improve the skin’s function. We have lots of different types of peels with different ingredients and strengths ranging from glycolic, salicylic, lactic and mandelic, with these peels skin will have mild or if any peeling or flaking.
- Glycolic peels are brilliant for refining skin texture, resurfacing, providing the skin with a deep exfoliation, brightening and improving congestion.
- Salicylic peels are suited for more acne prone and congested skins, salicylic is antibacterial and anti inflammatory and will help to improve acne skins. Lactic peels are very good for anyone looking to lighten pigmentation or skins that are feeling dry/dehydrated.
- Mandelic peels are more for oily skin types, they will mop up excess oil on the skin as well as deeply cleanse the skin and unclog pores.
- Stronger peels like retinol and MD peels will have more flaking for up to 10 days after the treatment. These peels are for skins looking to significantly improve a certain skin concern, like melasama or fine lines and wrinkles.

Removing damaged superficial layers of skin improves the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, texture and tone of the skin, hydration, reduces pore size, clears blemishes, balances oil production and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells.

What Does The Skin Look Like Afterwards?
After a peel, redness following treatment is minimal, you should be able to return to your normal daily activities immediately, There is little or no actual peeling following the treatment, some people with dry skin may experience some mild flakiness in the days following treatment however most will not experience this. If you have one of our stronger peels like our retinol or MD peels, you will experience flaking for up to 10 days after treatment.
What Happens During The Treatment?
The treatment begins by deep cleansing with hot towels. Then we use a peel prep solution to remove any excess oils etc. A chosen peel is applied to the skin, you may find the skin a little tingly and itchy but this sensation will be mild and will pass within a few minutes. Once the gel has been absorbed by the skin it will be rinsed using cold water and sponges. Then a mask is applied. Our most popular treatment is peel with the add on of our Dermalux MD L.E.D for 20 minutes after this works on the inner layers of the dermis giving light energy to grow more cells bringing down inflammation and killing any bacteria depending on the lights chosen by the therapist. Once removed we will apply serums, moisturiser and a sunscreen to protect the skin.
How Do I Know What Peel To Choose?
At Skinsation, we tailor all of our treatments. At the beginning of each treatment we will access the clients skin and go through your skin goals and then decide which peel is best suited. We normally book our clients in under the treatment called ‘Any Peel and Dermalux’, this makes it easier for the client when booking in and we decide which peel to use on the day of treatment.
